On October 29, 1942, Mattie Mae Jackson was born to the proud parents Louis and Margaret Jackson of Union Springs, Alabama.
Mattie received Christ at a young age and always kept God first. Mattie received her education in Bullock County and was a graduate of Carver High School. As a young adult, Mattie moved from Union Springs, Alabama, to Long Island, New York with her siblings. As she enjoyed life in the big city, she met a young man that caught her eye. David and Mattie hit off instantly, and soon were David happily married in 1966. To this union, they were blessed with three children – Kimberly, Rodney & Kyra.
In 1970, David and Mattie relocated to East Palo Alto, California. She began her career in the health industry as an accountant for the Drew Medical Center in East Palo Alto. Mattie took her talents to O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, California, where she retired in 2002. While being a devoted and loving wife and mother, she always found time to do things she enjoyed. Mattie enjoyed shopping, dancing, playing cards, and traveling. Mattie was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of San Jose, California, where she enjoyed fellowship and participated in various activities and events.
After her retirement, David and Mattie relocated to Vass, North Carolina. They decided it was time to enjoy the retired life. She loved to entertain, cook, and be around family.
Mattie was a strong woman who always put others first. Even when her health began to fail, taking care of her precious David was a priority. On August 29, Mattie passed away peacefully. Her kind spirit and conversations about the importance of family will sorely be missed.
Mattie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, David.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children - Kimberly (Miami, Florida), Rodney (San Jose, California); and Kyra (Richmond, California); and grandchildren – Rodney Jr (Cleveland, Ohio) Quinton (Miami, Florida); George (Miami, Florida). Her sisters Ann Crittenden (Niagara Falls, New York), Margaret Baskin (Roosevelt, New York), Lillie Harrell (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Donna Smith (Union Springs, Ala) and her brothers Taylor Jackson (Niagara Falls, New York) and Ben Jackson (Uniondale, New York).
