Lawrence Dobbins

Lawrence Dobbins was born January 17, 1941 to the late Henry Dobbins and Mary Catherine Dobbins.  He departed this life on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at FirstHealth Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.

Lawrence grew up in and around the Vass Lobelia area and attended Pinckney High School in Carthage, NC.  Soon he got the urge to branch out a little further.   He joined the United States Army in 1964. and served five years to include two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged from the military as Staff Sergeant in 1969.

He returned home and began his civilian life.  Lawrence was employed by the Village Green Retirement Community of Southern Pines.  He managed the landscape in the Village Green Community which became one of his passions for 30 plus years.  Lawrence retired in 2013 and made a smooth transition into retirement life.

Lawrence was a conversationalist who loved nothing more than sitting down with family and friends discussing old times, telling war stories, chit chatting about current events, sports and the bible.  He had a special relationship with his nephew, Larry Johnson and his 8 year old great-great niece, Madison Ellerbee-Cummings.  Lawrence looked forward on the weekends to verbally sparing with Madison, trading playful insults and sharing a pack of Big Red or Juicy Fruit chewing gum.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Dobbins, Henry Dobbins, father and Wilma Johnson, sister.

He leaves to cherish his memories, Mary Catherine Dobbins, mother, 3 brothers: Clarence Dobbins and John Dobbins (Nareumon) of Vass, NC, Charles Dobbins (Debbie) of GA, 2 sisters; Inez Kyle and Dorothy Perez of Vass, NC, 2 brother-in-laws, 7 sister-in-laws, a very special friend Mozelle Elliott and  host of other relatives and friends.
