Jessie Mae “Mickey” Barrett

Jessie Mae Williams Barrett was born on December 5, 1931, as the tenth child and baby girl to the late Russell and Mattie Williams in Glendon, NC. She departed this life earthly on May 2, 2020, in Pinehurst, NC.

Jessie attended Bethlehem School and Pinckney High School, where she graduated in 1949. Jessie gave her life over to Christ at an early age. She joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and was an active member until she relocated to Pittsburgh, PA. On January 20, 1957, she married the love of her life Robert Barrett in Bennettsville, SC. After marriage, they relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, until they moved to Detroit, MI in the late 1960s.

While in Detroit, MI Jessie began working at Sinai Hospital as the head cook. She enjoyed cooking for the patients and doctors. She joined Spring-Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the gospel choir; she enjoyed traveling with the choir and singing for the Lord. Jessie retired with perfect attendance form the hospital in December 1991 after the birth of her youngest grandchild, “TP darling.” During her retirement, she would often travel back to NC to help take care of sick family members. Until 1998 when she and her husband decided to relocate back to North Carolina for good.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Alice Black, Annie Ruth Taylor, Elder Billy Williams, Belle Person, Betty Shamberger, Eva Brower, Esther LeGrande, and Leonard Williams.

Jessie leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Vickie Barrett-Clay of the home, two granddaughters, Jessica Clay and Brittany Clay of Charlotte, NC; on grandson Victor Clay, of the home; her pride and joy great-grandson, Dillion :Doodlebug: Johnson of Charlotte, NC; godchildren, Antonio Plummer and Ronald Moffet both of Detroit, MI, and LeRoi Larkin of California; siblings, Mary Taylor of Pittsburgh, PA, Mattie Williams of Carthage, NC , and baby brother Willie Williams of Robbins, NC; sister-in-law, Mae Frances Barrett of Vass, NC, Thelma Williams of Robbins, NC, Viola Williams of Columbus, OH, Margie Barrett of Oxon Hill, MD and Henrietta Barrett of Bowie, MD; one brother-in-law, James C. Barrett(Earlene) of Suitland, MD; a special friend, Minnie Jackson of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family of First Missionary Baptist Church in Carthage, NC.
