Luvenia Headen

Luvenia Chalmers Headen was born in Robbins, North Carolina on April 4, 1920, daughter of the late Joe Chalmers and Ada Chalmers.  She departed this life on August 16, 2018 at her home in Siler City, NC. 
 

Luvenia was married to the late John Cleveland Headen, Sr. and was blessed to be the mother of five boys.  She loved her boys and loved having them all together laughing and telling stories of past experiences when they were growing up. In addition to loving her sons was the love she had for here grandkids and great grandkids.  

 Luvenia (affectionately known as “Grandma”) was a member of Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church for 70 plus years. She faithfully attended church on a regular basis for many years. When she was unable to go consistently she would attend on the Sundays that her favorite choir sang “the Male Chorus”.

 A very special time in her life, outside of having wonderful grandchildren was when she worked in the cafeteria at Chatham Middle School in Siler City, N.C. She loved going to work, and her co-workers loved having her there. Friendships were made with several that lasted well into her later years. All because of her unique ability to work hard and keep people laughing a lot, because you never knew what she was going to say.

 Grandma loved having family and friends visit, and always hated to see them leave. Even during her darkest moments of her illness, she still loved to share her wit to put smiles on faces. She also loved working in her yard, and did so until she was 95 years old. Grandma wore the title: Part-time decorator in her home until the end. Most of all she loved to dance, and found a way to cut a step or two with her walker up until a couple of months before she departed.
 

 Luvenia was preceded in death by her husband, the late John Cleveland Headen, Sr.  Three sons, Bobby Headen, Jack Benny Headen and John Cleveland Headen, Jr.
 

Grandma leaves to cherish two sons, Mr. Billy Joe Headen (Barbara) of Siler City, NC and Mr. Wade Headen (Jacqueline) of Graham, NC; one step daughter, Ms. Shirley Paige of Pittsboro NC; Ms. Margaret Martin (cousin-sister) of Siler City, NC; Mr. J.P. Chalmers (cousin-brother) of Pittsboro, NC; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
