Barbara Joyce Barrett was born on October 19th, 1945 in Moore County, North Carolina to Alonzo and Bessie Ruth Barrett. She was the third oldest of seven siblings. Barbara was known as Joyce to family. She departed this life on October 27, 2017.

Barbara graduated from Pinckney High school in May 1963. She received her B. A. from Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C. on May 1967 and Masters from The Bernard M. Baruch College in New York City on February 1977.

Then started working as an Administrator in Human Resources for the city of New York, New York. For 30 years until she retired in 2005. Not long after that she returned home to Carthage, N.C.

Barbara will be dearly missed by her beloved longtime friend Lawrence Brown, daughter Glynis Barrett of Bronx, NY, her aunt Sadie Field of Pittsburgh., PA sister Janice Barrett My Reynolds of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, brothers Terry Barrett of Jackson Spring N.C., Timothy Henderson of Vass, N.C., and Tony Ray Henderson of Raeford, N.C. her favorite niece Mia Barrett of Atlanta, GA., along with a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and close dear friends. If you knew Barbara, you know that she was a very private, loving and generous person. She loved to travel, read and she had no problem giving you her honest opinion to everyone she met. Her passions were playing the piano, tennis, bowling, golf and gardening and she had no problem beating you at cards.
